Baptism

Congratulations on considering the gift of Baptism for your child! Baptism is the beginning and most-important part of a person’s Christian initiation. In this sacrament, a person is conformed to Christ and given the graces they need to walk as an adopted child of God in the family of Christ’s Church.

Parents and Godparents

Baptism opens for people the doorway of salvation, and they are guided along this path with the help of their family, godparents, and fellow believers. As a result, typically at least one of the parents should be Catholic, but we would love to assist you if you have a different situation. Similarly, a godparent is a Catholic aged 16 years or older who has been confirmed. Typically you may have either a male or a female godparent, or one of both.

When

Baptisms are often held in either St Mary’s Church, Kalgoorlie or All Hallows’ Church, Boulder after Sunday Mass, but can be negotiated with the celebrant around both theirs and your schedules. A Baptism Enquiry form can be downloaded here. Parents must attend a Baptism preparation meeting with one of our priests to confirm the scheduling and details needed for the child’s certificate. It’s also where the sacrament can be explained, and provides an opportunity to ask questions and find out what happens on the day.

Candles and Garments

We also have available various Baptism candles and Baptism garments for your convenience.

Cost?

While there is no charge for Baptisms, a donation to the upkeep of the Church is customary and very much appreciated.

We look forward to your call!

If you would like to get your baby baptised, please call the parish office between 9am and 1pm Monday to Friday to make the necessary bookings.
